Born in Texas, a true Texas cowboy. A singer, songwriter, musician and actor, all in one. Billy's ability and versatility transcend music categories. He strikes a responsive chord among all music lovers who appreciate a rich, soothing baritone voice. This six-foot "Son of Texas" expresses a full range of emotions through the western-style songs he sings.
Billy's style encompasses mellow country sounds, traditional cowboy favorites -- and you ought to hear him yodel! He sings with a warmth and depth of feeling that has won him deserved acclaim in the western music field.
Billy's career as an entertainer started early in life. With a Gene Autry guitar and a 25-cent songbook he learned to sing, yodel, play the guitar and ride a horse all about the same time. He loved music and the people who listened to him sing and often entertained family and schoolmates. Saturday movies introduced him to favorite cowboy heroes -- Hopalong Cassidy, Tom Mix, Lash LaRue, the Durango Kid -- and of course, the singing cowboys, Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. He perfected his yodeling by listening to Elton Britt and Slim Whitman. To him, these cowboy entertainers along with Eddy Arnold, Marty Robbins and The Sons of the Pioneers were some of the greatest.
Billy built his career singing popular music but has always been drawn to western-style music. He has sung throughout the Southwest at festivals, rodeos, cowboy gatherings, cowboy churches and private events, as well as around good old cowboy campfires. He enjoys performing the cowboy and gospel music that has always been in his heart.
Dedicated to the tradition of cowboy music, Billy Cate is one of the finest entertainers of today and he is destined to remain a favorite among western cowboy music fans.
From Billy Cate to all of you - May God bless you and may all the trails you ride be happy ones.
